Baptism

  • Baptism is the beginning and foundation for Christian life. It is the means of receiving and sharing in the divine life of Christ.

Baptism is like a door that gives us access to other sacraments of the Christian Church (Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Ordination, Reconciliation, and Holy Anointing) which help us to become the image and the likeness of God, children of the one Heavenly Father. Baptism is therefore the beginning of a journey to become a child of God, after the likeness of Jesus.

How do get my child baptised?

Contact the Parish Priest, The Reverend Nicole Anderson, by e-mail or by phone 32891715 during office hours to arrange an appointment, please include the time and date you would like for the baptism.

Baptisms are conducted by appointment usually at the 9:00am Service. As a part of the process leading up to Baptism we would ask that you attend a church service and a preparation meeting following the service on the first Sunday of the month (Unless otherwise arranged with the Parish Priest). This is a meeting when the Reverend Nicole will take you through the details of the celebration.

As a part of organising your Baptism you will need to think about who you want to have as sponsors or godparents. Normally three godparents are chosen. Two are of the same gender as the child. However, two or four godparents can be chosen. There is a requirement that the godparents be baptised Christians. This is because they are making a promise and a commitment for the child to be a member of the Church and to believe the Christian faith. However, they do not necessarily have to be members of the Anglican Church. If, however, the Godparents you would like are not baptised you may like to invite them to consider baptism for themselves.

    Photography

Memories are important and we understand that you may like to have some photos or a video taken as a part of your valuable memories of this wonderful occasion. Please feel free to take photos during the service and after the service.

    Costs

There is no fee for a baptism conducted during a service. It is a privilege and a pleasure for us to be able to offer this sacrament. If you wish, however, to make a donation, you may put it in the offering plate that is circulated during the service or give it to the priest who takes your baptism service. Should you wish to have a baptism service outside regular services, a fee is incurred. Please discuss this with the priest.

    Certificates

You will receive a certificate of baptism as an official record, and godparents will also be given a card reminding them of the date and the responsibilities they have undertaken on your child's behalf. In order to provide these, we will need you to fill out full details on the Baptism Application Form, which can be downloaded at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, we can send out the form on request by post when you make your booking. Please make sure you complete and return this form to us as soon as possible.
